Amidst the redrock on a sunny yet cool day, we gathered.   At the start,  the sun was high in the sky and felt welcoming as the wind swept through the wide valley.  We were at home with rockface all around…at home in our arid surroundings all charged with energy, warm light and possibilities…. This project happened back in 2010 and is just now making its way to you.  You can see 7 stunning pages in the newest Destination I Do magazine and I’m honored.  These images have been hiding like a well kept secret, anxious for the perfect opportunity to […]

We are always trying to find meaning, find ourselves, find the moment, find happiness and make it all fit.  These days we leave very little to chance.  So what about finding time to get lost?  I sat at the foot of a monstrous monolith this past week and the words “I feel lost here” came to mind as I painted the sun setting in all it’s juicy tones.  I do feel lost here, in this warm and dry place you all have heard me speak of countless times.  A good kind of lost…the best kind of lost really. Sometimes I need to get back to basics, don’t we all?  For my painting trips to Utah a tote full of brushes, palette and some water are all I need.  My favorite comfy t-shirt is just fine for the great outdoors and flip flops make it easy to dip my toes in the raging Virgin River while the paint on my watercolor block is drying.  Last week I spent I glorious week in Zion National Park and the surrounding areas.  I did a lot breathing, thinking, painting and most importantly recharging.  So often when there I paint landscape studies…this time […]
