Trend-Sketching NYC Bridal Market 2011 – Monique Lhuillier

What can you say about iconic Monique Lhuillier that hasn’t already been said? All I can tell you is that she certainly doesn’t disappoint. The collection was nothing short of what the designer describes as her “floral fantasy”. A larger than life image of blue hydrangeas (can I volunteer myself right now to paint this for the next collection?) set the stage for the parade of frothy frocks.

You can imagine the shock to discover  my seat  front and center with the biggest names in bridal media prepped to watch this gorgeous show unfold?  It was truly an honor.  I’m still pinching myself a little.

I see in color, line and light and as the lights changed signaling the show’s start my pen took over.  Delicate swirls, fussy little blooms, embroidery textures seemed to fly across my sketchbook page.  The possibilities were endless and quickly a pattern unfolded fit for the whimsy-est of wedding invitation designs!

In her own words, what to follow was “Ethereal, Dreamy, Romantic”. True, true, and true. Seemingly weightless yards of tulle and delicately layered laces gave the feeling of pure luxury. Billowy ballgowns with sometimes seemingly haphazard pins, tucks and pleats added to the allure. Who wouldn’t indulge in a fantasy such as this?

Wondering how all this magic translates into Wedding Invitations?  We had the honor of designing an exclusive collection inspired by Ms. Lhuillier for the Winter 2011 issue of The Knot.  Surprise, surprise a lighter than air Hydrangea sketch was the focal point!

There seemed to be a lot of leg at Bridal Market.  Brides are becoming a bit more daring and willing to throw a little sexy into their wedding day style, only a smidge of course, but we love the contrast of sweet and slightly seductive!
