A Real Momental Wedding – Tara and Kristopher June 19, 2010 Part II

Yesterday I shared a look at Tara and Kristopher’s tropical affair.  Today I have more including the massive stationery collection designed for them!  Tara is a stationery junkie to say the least.  We spent hours thumbing through papers and experimenting with painting techniques.  Tara’s design even inspired this look seen in Inside Weddings, a favorite hand picked by the editor from our current project gallery at the time!  Tara’s paper story began with painted bamboo save the dates embellished with a sketch of her Chinese character tattoo meaning “mysterious”.

Gold stocks,  a palm leaf pattern from Envelopments and a punchy fuchsia palette were integral to Tara’s collection.  Torn edges softened the boldness on select pieces and elaborate hand painting on each and every orchid gave these pieces a feeling of  thoughtfulness, like each was handcrafted with only the recipient in mind. Tara chose a poignant and not at all traditional wedding quote which seemed perfect for this spirited couple.  “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams” – Thoreau

Some of my favorite detail shots captured by Daniel, especially the scribbled note from Kristopher to Tara, so sweet.   I created a custom seating plan for the celebration which displayed like a fine work of art.  Free hand painted orchids and bamboo completely encircled the guest list.

Thanks so much for following along today!  It has been so fun to look back on Tara’s day and remeber all the bright, colorful fun!

A Real Momental Wedding – Tara and Kristopher June 19, 2010

I’ve been dying to share this real wedding with you! Tara and our team worked together for nearly a year to create stationery of all kinds from save the dates to getaway signs!! More on that soon, I promise, but first I wanted to start with these killer bridal portraits by Daniel Lanton.  Tara is a stunning girl and made a breathtaking bride.  Orchids and bamboo were integral to the look and this exotic sensibility could be seen in all facets from favors to fresh florals.

Love this edgy little detail…Tara brought in an artist to embellish her tattoo day of.  This beauty really popped in so many of the photos.

The perfect recessional shot on a stunning sunny day.  Crispy greens and touches of white throughout gave the day a freshness that is so alluring in these shots.

Each table featured a unique floral scape and we cannot get over the palm leaf chargers!!

Thanks for checking in!!  So much more to come!

A Peek into the Studio – An Aloe Flower Tropical Wedding Invitation

Today I have a bright and colorful wedding invitation to share for Gayaneh and Erik’s wedding in July.  She wanted bold florals but with a distinctly unique twist.  We chose the aloe bloom in fantasy shades of fuchsia and orange.  Painted in detail with sheer shimmer accents the blooms were full of sheen and life!

Gayaneh also asked me to create a creative Armenian monogram representing their first initials.  How fun!  A sweet Portable Pocket from Envelopments was the finishing detail  all tied up with natural raffia.

Thanks so much Gayaneh for the opportunity to collaborate on this project!

So what am I up to?

Wrapping a fun project with Kate Miller Events!

Planning my Best Friend’s Wedding Shower set for next month!

Getting super excited for my trip to San Diego for Engage 11!

Behind the Scenes – Colorful, Tropical Wedding Inspiration in Destination I Do Magazine Part II

Yesterday I shared a Behind the Scenes look at our Grand Cayman Inspiration shoot.  We’re all about the color and texture here, drawing on the juicy hue of the blood orange and the lush texture and grace of our Big Bloom watercolor illustration.  Today I’m diving deeper into the Tropical Wedding Invitation suite created.  Our stunning model and breezy gown perfect for beach side nuptials deserve some attention too.

The main bloom was abstracted a bit to draw the eye more to the watercolor textures and breezy shape.

We’ve all seen the classic tropical color palettes that seem perfectly suited for a Beach Wedding.  Those colors would not be seen here.  Rich shades of gold and ocher combined with a hue named Pout from our friends at Envelopments, livened the tranquil sandy scene while complimenting the shimmering movement of the ocean’s water.  Glistening gold stocks with an eclectic use of damask fabric, layer effortlessly.

Balsa wood fans from Pier One Imports were quick and easy to paint with freehand blooms.  Each table number was contrast painted with sheer white inks against gold stock.

Oh how we loved our model…she doubled as our makeup artist that day too…talented girl.  Alisa Benay offered her travel easy gown Phoebe for the shoot…perfection.   I will attest first hand to the fact that this gown travels impeccably.  It made it from PA to Grand Cayman stuffed in a suitcase, carried through airports on my arm and needed NO steaming.  Wow.

Want more on our little project?  Check out what Lindsey, Joanne and Danielle had to say!

How can I say thank you this group of people?  I feel like a new word for thank you needs to be defined.  One that implies the blood, sweat and tears literally went into this project.  A word that expresses my gratitude for dedicated artistry that seemed to ooze from each minute of our shooting day.  Something happens when a group of people come together to create art.  Something incredible.  When minds join for a common goal; to create a feast for the eyes and make good art that will mean something beyond ourselves, a lifelong connection is made.  I am honored to have worked with this crew and hope to do so again soon.

Behind the Scenes – Colorful, Tropical Wedding Inspiration in Destination I Do Magazine Part I

I am so excited to finally share my Grand Cayman project with you!   This collaboration started  one quiet winter afternoon in January 2010.  I worked from home one afternoon after the Holidays and let my mind wander for a day; thinking on several ideas I hadn’t let my mind visit during the bustle of high wedding season.  Daydreaming about Engage 10 in Grand Cayman coming that June led to thoughts of assembling some friends there to vision a purely inspirational shoot.  What could be better than the white sands and cerulean blue waters of Grand Cayman and when else would SO many talented members of the wedding industry be assembled in one place?   Lindsey from Joyologie and I chatted soon after my thinking day and the ideas evolved quickly.

I’m known for my Big Bloom paintings and while I continuously strive to step outside my petaled comfort zone this shoot was to be all about the Big Bloom.  Everything from the saturated blood orange-esque color palette to lush floral designs were inspired by a classic Momental big Bloom painting.  Lindsey sketched an innovative v-shaped tablescape focused on nothing other than the famed 7 Mile Beach.  All seats faced ocean….love.  Danielle from the Caribbean Club was our gracious host for the day, not only keeping us hydrated and fed but giving us intermittent and glorious shelter from the heat in one of their wow beachfront villas!

Early on I sketched a swag of blooms grazing the sand on either table end.  Joanne Brown and her team from Celebrations, famous for their work in Grand Cayman, ensured every detail came together and installation was flawless. Joanne suggested a palette of blooms where contrast and saturation were paramount.  The bold coral roses against the burgundy peonies were definitely my fav.

The flower palette included Burgundy peonies, Orange Lilies,  Coral Roses, Red Roses, Hypericum Berries, Orange Dahlias and Fuchsia Cockscomb.  Check out our custom garter from The Garter Girl!

Mentioned in the magazine but not pictured were these: I asked Caroline from Paloma’s Nest to send along round charms which she allowed me to watercolor in shades of sand and gold.  Each was handwritten and nestled in the sand for a simple seating card display!

Our sorbet bar looked irresistible in the 110 degree heat!   Texture was key to the look with the grass hut canopy and dangling Paloma’s Nest charms all lending a breezy and quirky island feel.

Check back tomorrow for more on the stationery and the dress from Alisa Benay!  Thanks to Donna Von Bruening for the stunning photography!
